Trisha + Aaron | Starved Rock Wedding Photography

I first met Trisha a few months ago when she contacted me about collaborating with her and Aaron on their wedding day. We chatted on the phone and then met up at Starbucks for some drinks and more planning about their big day. For anyone who has worked with me, you know this is how I usually work. I love to meet at Starbucks, grab a couple drinks, and chat about not only your wedding day plans, but who you are as a couple. With Trisha, I immediately felt like we were old friends. We talked about her work and mine, their home, their life as a couple, where they grew up, and everything in-between. She told me that she had never been one to want a big wedding and they had planned their wedding day as a celebration with only their closest friends and family surrounding them. As a photographer who loves photographing couples outside in nature, I was excited for the gorgeous Starved Rock backdrop they had chosen. On the day of the wedding, I showed up to a crowded Starved Rock Park in Utica, Illinois. It was so crowded, in fact, that police were at the entrance to turn cars away from entering. As one of the first *hot* days of the year, everyone had showed up to take advantage of the beautiful May weekend, however, as I started to photograph Trisha and Aaron, their love and intimate wedding day shut out the rest of the world. Nestled in a small corner of the park was their ceremony and afterward, they celebrated with friends and family inside the lodge. To Trisha and Aaron- your kind of love is what makes me love being a wedding photographer. You make my job easy and my photographs magical with your stunning love story. I hope you enjoy your wedding photographs and much as I did capturing them.

Jackie + Matthew | Bloomington-Normal Engagement

This was a session of firsts. When Jackie and I started talking about locations for their engagement session, she mentioned that she would love to take a few pictures at their new home. I love that Jackie and Matthew’s first engagement picture occurred at their new house. It is the sweetest house in a very quaint part of Bloomington, and when Jackie asked me to meet them there for a few pictures, I was secretly very excited for them. Not many people know that my family and I recently sold our “first home” and are getting ready to move to a new house in the Bloomington. While I’m very excited for this new chapter in our lives, I can’t help but look at our “old” house and see all of the “firsts.” This was the first home we bought together, moved into together, brought our first child home together… and well, as you can see, we’ve had a lot of firsts here. I think a lot of these firsts are the same that other couples share in their first homes. Capturing a few snaps of Jackie and Matthew outside their first home was really a sweet moment and my hope is that someday when it is time for them to move on to their next home, these images will bring smiles to their hearts. Along with their home, we also shared some time at their alma mater, Illinois Wesleyan University, a special place that holds so many of their firsts. Cheers to Jackie and Matthew as they prepare for their 2018 wedding! Can’t wait!

Sarah + Trevor | Funks Grove, Illinois Engagement

It is no secret that I love the backlit images. You know, the kind where the sun is setting and “golden hour” emerges. I am the first to admit that I have been spoiled to countless sessions with gorgeous, warm sunlight, so this day was somewhat different. For the first time in a while, this session was filled with overcast skies. How could I have known that the cloudy blanket would lead to gorgeous, bold colors, and Sarah and Trevor’s personalities and love would warm up these photos in no time. I usually laugh at sessions with my couples, but this one was different. These two had me rolling! They are so sweet and funny, and I’m so excited to shoot their July wedding next year in Bloomington. Congratulations Sarah and Trevor!! Hope you enjoy this sneak peak ;).

Weslie + Vance | Bloomington-Normal Engagement

My favorite season is fall. I love the colors, and like a true professional shopper (as my mom calls me, ha), I love the clothes :). There’s nothing like putting on a good pair of boots and a flannel and shooting an engagement session. I think these are some of the reasons why I love the way Weslie and Vance’s session turned out. The perfect weather and colors, combined with Weslie and Vance’s love made way for truly awesome images. Since most of the leaves have fallen and the trees are looking now sparse, I hope this session brings you some warm fall love before it gets too cold! Weslie and Vance, I can’t wait for your September 2017 wedding! Enjoy!
